Razghull Skullsplitta had a choice to make.
Take a detour into the Wood Elf realm of Athel Loren, or creep deeper towards The Ogre Kingdoms in search of more Ogre villages to plunder. Grutongue, more affectionately known as 'Da Joker' amongst all Goblins had advised that his Night Goblin comrades needed Razghull's Orcs to bully some elf folk into submission. In return for his help, Da Joker would gladly lead his 'krew with pointy sticks' and aid Razghull in any of his future battles. Da Joker, cunning as ever, also let Razghull know that if he had lost any battle against the elf folk, Razghull would be able to eat him for dinner and called it a "win-win situation".
How Could Razghull refuse?
Upon their search for the elf folk, Da Joker had given one of Razghull's Big Boss' a map of Athel Loren. He had specifically told him to read it in a strict order. Unfortunately, the Big Boss had read the map upside down and ended up leading Razghull's Greenskin horde into an abandoned Empire hold - currently being raided by Gorthek and his herd of Beastmen...
I let Peter roll which scenario we would be playing and ended up with Battle Line.
Only had the one Mangler Squig and cut down on my single Trolls, so I had less deployment drops in this game. Even with the two units that ambushed, I still had the +1 to see who would go first. I won that roll, but decided to give first turn to Peter.
With the Shard of the Herdstone, Peter was packing 12 power dice on the first two turns of the game. Luckily, most of his spells are buffs and hexes. The only damage spells he had in his deck was Pit of Shades. Also, all his Shamans were level 2, which meant that he wasn't getting the +4 to cast, which was huge.
After failing to draw out the Dispel Scroll on turn 1 with Foot of Gork, 'Eadbang Da Shaman did what he's known for by casting 'Eadbutt on the Beastman BSB and wounded him!
Peter took a massive lead in the early stages of this game as well.
He failed to control his Frenzied Doombull into charging my Savage Orc unit with 'Eadbang (the level 4 Savage Orc Great Shaman). He won combat after I fluffed most of my ward saves. Sure I was stubborn at leadership 8, but I rolled a 9 and they fled off the table. Poor deployment choice on my part, but he totally fluked the charge and didn't count on his Doombull making the long charge in the first place.
So my 'Eadbang (my level 4) and the Savage Orcs were gone on his Turn 2. Eek. Uphill battle up ahead...
From here on in, Peter's luck just went sour. Of course, I had to actually use some tactics and started to get picky with the combats. I knew I couldn't hide the Night Goblin Archers at the back anymore and actually had to use them in combat if I wanted to avoid getting overrun by the Beastmen.
Peter started charging my units left, right and centre. The massive unit of Gors with the BSB made their charge against the Black Orcs. The Bestigors in the middle charged the Troll, which I had set up just in front of the Big Uns. The other Bestigor unit also declared a charge, this time against the Night Goblin Archers. A stand and shoot knocked off about 3 Bestigors, but it was the Fanatics who wiped out most of them, who knocked off about 11 of the Bestigor brutes. He still managed to pass a Panic check. Not what I was after, but he only had 6 Bestigors left when they met the 40 Night Goblins, led by Da Joker Goblin.
His General along with his Bestigor friends, easily smashed the single Troll aside, overunning into the Big Uns unit. I was feeling good about this one. But this combat would have to be fought out in the next round.
The one I wasn't feeling too confident about was the BSB and his Gor horde against the Black Orcs. I went with the Choppa/Shield combo. And I must say, this combo changed the outlook of the game.
He managed to wound 14 Black Orcs. Their heavy armour/shield knocked off 7 wounds. Then I parried 3, resulting in only 4 dead Black Orcs. They are tough as nails. When it came to swiping back, I targeted his BSB, which was on one wound left. Two Black Orcs took a swipe at him, wounding him once, but Peter failed the armour save. Dead Beastman BSB. Major morale booster for me as this meant one bad roll on his Primal Fury would take away his re-rolls to hit every round of combat.
After seeing that Beastman BSB die must've inspired the rest of the Black Orc regiment as they continued to fell more savage Gors. So much so, that it ended up drawing the combat after I had no hope of the Black Orcs surviving.
Next round, Razghull, Bruticus and Da Ruff Necks, preceeded to lay the smack down on his Bestigors, breaking them in combat and overunning into the Gor unit which was combat with the Black Orcs.
Slowly started to get some confidence back, especially when the Black Orcs started to ward off more Gor attacks with their armour and parries. Once again, the Big Uns laid more smack down and helped the Black Orcs break the Gor unit. Razghull and his unit were spent and couldn't overrun anymore, instead, reforming to meet the incoming charge from his Doombull. Meanwhile, the Black Orcs were madly chasing down the Gors, which they eventually did.
So in went his Doombull, quick to challenge an eager opponent. Still quite cranky that Razghull was lead into a wrong turn, he quickly dragged the Orc Big Boss who read the map incorrectly as a sacrifice. The Big Boss was appropriately slain. With the combat res, the Big Uns just managed to win based on the musician, unfortunately, the Doombull stuck around.
I managed to break the Doombull eventually and even ran it down with the Da Ruff Necks.
I don't think I could've played it any better than that. I had lost my level 4 Savage Orc Shaman and 35 Savage Orcs before my Turn 2. From then on, I had only lost another Doom Diver, Troll and the Mangler Squig.
It was an 18-2 win to Razghull and his horde. Quite happy with that!
