The inaugural Club challenge for Dystopian Wars was let loose on Sunday, December 4. It was a great turn out with 14 players dropping by to get a game of boats and planes.
It's been awhile since I last played DW, so the rules were slowly slipping away from my head. A lot of the guys down at the club are also fairly new to the game, so we were learning things on the go.
Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics in as I was playing and running the Club Challenge at the same time.
Game 1 was against Chris and his Covenant of Antarctica. The CoA are a very solid nation, especially with their shields that always seem to knock off gunnery attacks on a frequent basis. My tactics were all wrong in this game, concentrating my Squids on his Dreadnought when I should've been going for his 3 cruisers which were left all alone.
I did manage to get my 2 Squids into his Dreadnought eventually, wiping out the crew. But when I tried to board the vessel with one of my battle ships, my crew were shot to bits with so many machine guns still being manned onboard. Ended up being a convincing win to Chris.
Game 2 set me up against the Cam and the Kingdom of Brittania. Another Dreadnought. Knowing that the Dreadnought had 6 turrets, not only is it a tank, but it will blow anything away if it gets too close.
So with that in mind, I focused one battle ship on his subs, while the 2 Squids and the other battleship would go for his own battle ship.
My tactics were a lot more solid in this game, severely wounding his battleship, knocking off one of Cam's subs and denying the Dreadnought a path to my fleet by setting down carefully placed mines.
I eventually boarded his battle ship on the last turn to claim it as a prize - which means I double the points when calculating victory points. Big win to me.
